Apprendre en faisant – Learning French the fun way for gr. 9 & 10 high school students!!!!

Be totally immersed in French for the day while having fun participating in hands-on workshops in: Chocolate making, magic, yoga, zumba dancing, drumming, and more! (full session description below)

We have availability for up to 180 students only!! As space is limited, teachers will be notified if their registration is confirmed by October 15th.

Where: Shriner’s, 1155 wilkes (between Waverley & Kenaston Near golf dome)

When: Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Time: 9:30 am-2:30 pm

Cost: a non-refundable fee of $7.00 per student due by October 30th. (cheques made out to MATF and mailed to Lucie Boutet; 27 promenade brunet, wpg, mb, r3j 0a1)*if space is unavailable, your payment will be returned to you.

If you are accepted, you will be contacted by e-mail and asked to fill in the registration form, student information and send all with fees to the address above. In order to accommodate more schools, we ask that each teacher brings only one class (maximum 30 students).

SESSION DESCRIPTIONS:

Please note: Sessions will be delivered using vocabulary familiar to Basic French students.  The focus of the workshops will be to further develop students’ skills in French as well as providing opportunities to explore the Arts.  Presenters will adapt to students’ linguistic needs.  Teachers will be provided with a ‘lexique’ which they can review with the students prior to attending this event.

CHOCOLATE MAKING (Session 1)

Come learn how to make your own delicious milk chocolate using molds and how this “hands on” activity is fun and enjoyable and can be done in French!

YOGA (Session 2)

Come and relax while learning yoga techniques. Improve your flexibility and mental discipline while relaxing in a calm, tranquil environment.  Please bring a yoga mat with you if you have one.  You will leave the session appreciating the art of yoga! WEAR OR BRING APPROPRIATE CLOTHING!

LET’S MAKE SOME MAGIC/FAISONS DE LA MAGIE!! (Session 3)

Come out and see MAGIC performed by a local French Magician. During the performance, many students are invited to give the magician a hand. From time to time, the whole crowd participates in achieving a magic trick. The emphasis is on HUMOUR. You won’t believe your eyes!!

SPOONtanéité–UN VOYAGE MUSICAL DANS LA FRANCOPHONIE (Session 4)

Come learn how to play the spoons – playing rhythms from Francophone countries.  Ecoutez les rythmes des pays de la francophonie autour du monde. Voyagez autour du monde avec la musique et soyez prêts à jouer les cuillères musicales.

FINGERWEAVING EN FRANÇAIS ! (Session 5)

Come to this session ready to further develop your artistic talent ! This session will focus on making an item {either a ceinture fléchée (sash) or bookmark or bracelet} using the technique of finger weaving.   No experience is necessary but fun will be had by all !

ZUMBA (Session 6)

Join in on the latest fitness craze and do some ZUMBA! ZUMBA combines Latin-style dance moves with your cardio workout. Wear comfortable clothing, preferably sport wear and sport shoes.

DRUMMING (Session 7)

Come join in this hands-on learning experience using authentic African drums and xylophones. These amazing rare instruments are from around the world. Come ready to participate.
