BENEFITS FROM MEMBERSHIPS

SAG is an opportunity in which Basic French teachers can extend their repertoire of strategies and familiarize themselves with current resources or ideas. SAG 2010 is on Friday, October 22 at Transcona Collegiate Institute. This year’s theme is Learning French Through the Arts, featuring Marc Tardiff “Le Magicien” as the keynote speaker. Hands-on workshops will emphasize teaching and learning French through drama, music, cooking, art and much more!

MATF/AMPF also provides opportunities for highschool students to participate in an authentic French workshop, Apprendre en Faisant. Last year’s participants valued the opportunity to extend their French language learning beyond the classroom by taking part in hands-on activities! MATF/AMPF members also receive certificates for grade 12 students who have successfully completed the Basic French program.

This year we are also offering a Mentorship Program that will pair experienced Basic French mentors with 10 teachers new to Basic French who have expressed an interest in exploring and expanding their repertoire of best practice teaching strategies. See http://www.matf.ca/ for additional information and application forms. Registration closes on October 15th, 2010.

On the website, you will also discover links to information and application forms for bursaries, the Mentorship program, SAG and other MATF projects. You’ll also find links to useful sites including BEF and access to MATF/AMPF’s online journal, Imex. Published twice a year, Imex provides links and information about current MATF/AMPF projects. Also on the website is the Panier d’idées, a collection of teaching resources and reproducibles submitted by Manitoba Basic French teachers. We’re always adding new resources!
